No matter how much I like Starbucks for their 12 rmb coffee of the day, how many people do they expect to type in this URL.

  1. That’s not the main Starbucks IP address either (not even the starbucks.cn address), just a standard China Netcom data centre in Shanghai. Possibly the Shanghai branch couldn’t get access to the main server and just decided to set something up on their own?

  2. How is Starbucks perceived in China? I know that the Chinese generally love American brands and restaurants. Do people go to Starbucks for the coffee or for the “American experience”?

Good question. This is somewhat of a personal observation so not academic at all. I think they go more and more for both and also for just hanging out.
