China Northern Airlines Guidance

Filed under: Whatever — Shanghai @ 1:40 am

While doing some research on [tag]Chinese Airlines[/tag] I used an old bookmark of [tag]China[/tag] Northern Airlines. Their main domain is re-directing now to [tag]China Southern Airlines[/tag] that has absorbed them. Surfing a bit more on that old bookmarked site, I ran into this beauty of company philosophy .

china northern airlines

Guided by the spirit of the 15th Party Congress and Deng Xiaoping’s theory, and under the leadership of the Party committee of CNA, we will insist on the major ideology of ” the representatives in three parts “, firmly adopt the idea of ” the aviation for the people “, ensure safety in flight, try hard to raise economic profits, steadily improve our services, and keep to the spirit of hard struggle, so as to satisfy the passengers and owners of cargo through our good services. We will make more contributions to our country’s economic construction, to the flourishing development of the civil aviation, and to the steady improvement of the enterprise.

It must have seemed like a sound business plan in those days.

Shanghai Daily Bogus Headline

Filed under: Whatever — Shanghai @ 5:32 am

How to write an article about an professor with a very [tag]Chinese[/tag] name, Yang Jie, of the “famous” [tag]Shanghai[/tag] university [tag]Tongji[/tag] who apparently faked his credentials.

Make a headline focusing on “[tag]Bogus[/tag] Overseas

Tongji University Fake Diploma

Not that is mentioned how “overseas” the professor is.

Thank God They Are Still Virgin

Filed under: Whatever — Shanghai @ 4:00 am

Despite previous internet claims that 84.14 percent of girls in the Beijing Foreign Studies University have had sex another highly scientific survey shows this is nonsense.

….the survey found 3.8 percent of sophomore girls have had sex experience, compared with 7.9 percent of junior girls and 24.8 percent of senior girls.

The survey team said their survey counteracted Internet claims that 84.14 percent of girls in the university have had sex, which damages the female students’ reputation because Chinese tradition respects virginity before marriage.

Airco Cold |

Filed under: Whatever — Shanghai @ 10:19 am

It has been pretty hot lately here in Shanghai. To sweat is nice for loosing weight but even that has its limits. The several Airco’s at home are very busy, the airco’s in the city department stores etc are also on temperature ‘Ice” eventhough they officially should be at 26 degrees celcius. As a consequence of the constant changing of the temperature environment I have a cold.

Well, just reread this piece and it is no literature. Then again, it resembles my state of mind.

In the mean time for something different I can suggest the latest post of lalaoshi about the growth of China’s economy. He writes much better than me so go..

Totally forgot my Monday Rant

Filed under: Whatever — Shanghai @ 1:54 am

I have been so focused on making the design of this blog more acceptable that I actually forgot to complain and wine about anything. I should more often be focused, I guess. Anyway, although not 100% finished we are getting there.

To get back to some more substantial content I will do the “blogger” thing, that is, tell you what I have been reading on the web, give you a small intro, give the link and get some credit for making this available.

Today some links to my favorite reads.

  • Danwei – Today they treat us on the legal issues related to the Olympic Games – a China Media Blog – Constant and Humorous
  • Laowaiass – The guy doesn’t post daily but when he does the cynism is dripping from the screen. Absolutely great

Ok. next time I have absolutley no inspiration I’ll surprise you with another set of “my favourites”. In the mean time I go on improving this blog. If you have any feedback, comment or just like to buy a book. Go ahead.

Dutch Prefer China over Holland

Filed under: Whatever — Shanghai @ 10:35 pm

Now and then some amazing survey results surface. A Dutch Psychological Market Research Company needed some attention and researched how Dutch people view China. Pretty smart. Mentioning “China” in your press release these days gets you a lot of attention. Combined with the Dutch, sometimes called the Chinese of the West, gets you a winner. Some conclusions of the survey that is supposed to be representative. 443 Dutch participated and the biggest news is.

“Nederlanders denken positiever over China dan over eigen land. Bij Nederland zijn de helft (46%) van de gedachten negatief, bij China een derde (35%) van de gedachten.” (source: in Dutch : Mindworld)

What, well Dutch people are more positive about China than about Holland. 46 % thinks negative about Holland and only 33% thinks negative about China. Don’t be surprised if there will be some more migration from that small country to China in the future.

No flu, slow internet and PDF

Filed under: Whatever — Shanghai @ 5:01 pm

Right, having spent the last days in bed because of the flu I am happy to be back again in the land of the sane. My own sanity, I should add. The good thing of being beaten by a virus is that it gives you a chance to realize your Internet addiction. How bad do I have to feel to not log on? Pretty bad. I have missed a lot of news, which is another plus. Less to worry about. Back online, I notice that in High Tech, Advanced and Scientific country China they are still unable to deliver high-speed ADSL. It actually seems the speed and reliability is decreasing by the day. At times it is so slow that I contemplate reading the China Daily again. An effective and natural way of stopping the free flow of information. Another thing that got me started today is the use of .pdf by websites. And then the special form… you click and surprise… the browser starts to open acrobat reader because it’s a .pdf file. Then my browser crashes etc, etc. How darn user unfriendly can you be not to tell people that clicking this link be presented with a .pdf file. The site of the bar Number 5 is an example. I just wanted to see their menu.. Wow.. It got me crashed, it took 5 minutes of my life so no, I won’t check out their drinks. At least not online.
