Bund Sightseeing Tunnel

Oriental Pearl TV TowerThe Bund Sightseeing Tunnel is no big secret, although it’s rather hellish to find when you are on the Pudong side.

We couldn’t so we went back to Puxi subway station Middle Henan Rd. and walked back to the Bund.

If you take the pedestrian tunnel close to Bund 18 (Puxi side) you’ll find at the end of it a sign, pointing to the left, to the Sightseeing Tunnel.

It must have been a rather intoxinated, ok, totally doped person that designed this small tunnel under the Pu river.
Bund Sighseeing Tunnel

You enter a small cable car and guided by house music you are thrilled with colorful lightbeams, waving puppets and suddenly disappearing movie screens. Strange as it may sound, it is rather enjoyable and an efficient way to get to Pudong, once you have seen the view from the Puxi side.

Having arrived, two escalators bring you close to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Another touristic hotspot I will save for my next guest.

As mentioned if you are on the Pudong side the entrance is not that easy to find. I made a picture of the entrance which may help, or not.

  1. […] After that we took the ferry to Pudong, Shanghai’s new development area on the other side of the river, heading for Jin Mao Tower,  China’s highest building (after the Taipei 101) with 88 floors and the world’s highest hotel lobby at the 54th floor (ok not above sealevel but above ground). From inside you can look up over 30 floors since the inside is build a bit like a hive. Really impressive. However they wouldn’t let us up to the bar on the 87th floor because we were dresses in shorts and sandals. We will dress up and come back. From there we went to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower but didn’t go up, heading for the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel instead. Back on the other side of the Huang Pu River we took a walk at the Bund and then went back home. Of course too late to catch the start of the Formula One race… […]

  2. […] We took a leisurely stroll on the riverbank of the Huangpu river, gazing on the beautifully lit Bund from the other side, while looking for a way to cross. And then! The highlight of our trip! The sightseeing tunnel to the other side of the river! Oh my, this was really one of the most bizarre things ever. We were put in a little booth, and sailed through endless kitsch lights and sounds that tried to resemble oceans, magma and even one sad meteor shower. Seemed an awful lot like an elementary school student’s project. Maybe it was. So far for those 40Y per ticket. […]

It kinda reminded me of Manila when it’s flooded. Haha! It’s like Ilog Pasig minus the basura. There are people still living in this town and have resorted to selling souvenirs and displaying their laundry outside their anciient windows for all the world to see. ———– ShanghaiOriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai CH It’s true what other people were saying that you can go around Shanghai in a day.
