Wisdom Tooth Pulled

Filed under: Shanghai Prices — Shanghai @ 10:40 pm

My second wisdom tooth was pulled yesterday.

Last time it was in the upper half of my jaw (to be exact on the right side) and it cost me 300 Rmb.

This time it was the lower half (left side) and it cost me double.

I have no inkling why there is such a difference as the work seemed the same.

It’s still much cheaper than Holland though.

Yahoo.com Down and Up Again

Filed under: Chinese Multi Media — Shanghai @ 1:17 am

Yahoo.com was unreachable here in China for more than 12 hours. It’s up again. The question is, is it accesible again because of a glitch in the Chinese firewall or is it allowed in again for good:)

The Chinese internet, never a dull moment…

Beijing Olympic Posters with a Twist

Filed under: China Olympics — Shanghai @ 2:26 pm

There are already official posters for the 2008 Olympics and now there are also some unofficial ones that are quite amusing.

Flying Chef Cooks At Home

Filed under: Shanghai Life — Shanghai @ 5:22 am

Home cooking shanghaiWhile adding new links to My China Start I ran into the Flying chef website.

The Flying Chef is labeled as a Shanghai-based, inexpensive service to book an experienced Chinese chef to cook in your home for private dinners.

I kinda like the concept and it doesn’t seem to cost too much. I’ll try it out sometime this summer I guess.

And no, I’m not paid to write this:)

Indalo Spanish Restaurant Shanghai

Filed under: Shanghai Restaurants — Shanghai @ 2:13 am

Indalo barIt was Sunday and we were in the mood for some brunch. Instead of going to one of the hotel buffets that can be quite good value for money, we wanted something else. Flipping through the free expat magazines I noticed Indalo. A Spanish brunch that starts at 14:00 ‘o clock. It fitted perfectly with our schedule. We took a taxi and ended up on the corner of Sinan Lu and Xiangshan Lu.

As it turned out we had the whole place for ourselves which wasn’t as bad as it sounds. (more…)

Brilliance BS6 Car Less Than Brilliant Test Results

Filed under: China Business — Shanghai @ 10:26 pm

In September 2005 there was a lot of press about the test results for the SUV Jiangling Landwind. It didn’t pass the crash test. In other words, the Dutch (ANWB) and German (ADAC) Car Consumer Associations couldn’t vouch for the safety.

They have tested another Chinese car, the Brilliance BS6 sedan, and it seems this one needs some attention as well. It failed to pass a benchmark German crash test.

It won a whoopy 1 star out of a possible 5 stars. The car retails for about 17.500 euro in Belgium.

After the Landwind test results, it stopped being sold. It isn’t unlikely the same will happen to the Brilliance unless it will be made safer.

Go here to see the video of the car in better circumstances.

Moving A Tree

Not my best picture, I know, but I’m always impressed with how they move things here.
