Indalo Spanish Restaurant Shanghai

Indalo barIt was Sunday and we were in the mood for some brunch. Instead of going to one of the hotel buffets that can be quite good value for money, we wanted something else. Flipping through the free expat magazines I noticed Indalo. A Spanish brunch that starts at 14:00 ‘o clock. It fitted perfectly with our schedule. We took a taxi and ended up on the corner of Sinan Lu and Xiangshan Lu.

As it turned out we had the whole place for ourselves which wasn’t as bad as it sounds.

Food

spanish tapasOn Sunday’s Indalo has a Brunch menu. You can choose the 2 or 3 course set.
It includes a small tapas buffet with Devilled eggs with chicken. Escalivada, Potatoes Alioli, Asparagus and more. As a main you can go for the Poached egg with salmon, spinach and fried potatoes, a scrambled egg or you can add some extra Rmb (40) to get an additional steak with it.

Although some of the tapas needed some pepper to spice them up, the escalivada, the devilled egg and potatoes alioli were very tasteful. It’s an unlimited take in so you can egg up your cholesterol. The main dishes were adequate, the steak was perfect.

spanish dessertsWe had the 3 course set which gave us the chance to taste some deserts as well.

We went for the Crema Catalana an some deep fried cookies with chocolate sauce. Not bad.

Drinks

Included in the menu is a cocktail. There’s fruit punch and 3 others which I don’t remember.

Service

We were the only customers and as such we had all the attention. The waiters were friendly and accurate. Especially for as long the owner was occupying a table as well. Once he went out, the staff was getting more acquainted with each other. I can’t really blame them as it must be a rather dull experience to have only 2 customers.

Toilets

toilet in IndaloMy favorite part of going out. Well no really, but most of the time an unavoidable part. The toilets in Indalo were ok, nothing more, nothing less. It wouldn’t hurt if they would scrub/wash the walls. The view of the garden is nice once you open the blinds. What is a rather nuisance is the message that you have to throw the paper in the bin. I know the plumbing system is probably old but it looks so amateurish to be confronted with that note when you are sitting there.

Environment

Indalo environmentIndalo is located where once the club Madam Zung found its demise. It’s nicely decorated with high and low tables and there is a lot of lighting. The bar looks modern and is stocked with all the alcohol brands you may need. The place is rather dark as they keep the blinds/curtains half shut. Getting more daylight would be positive.

Overall

We enjoyed our time in Indalo. The food was filling and some dishes were above average, like the steak and certain tapas. It makes a good change for one of the many hotel buffets, especially if you don’t want to over stuff yourself and have a pleasant and quiet afternoon,

Totally Spent
