Fake DVD Sold Out
We bought the movie “The post modern life of my aunt” in the dvd shop around the corner.
The sales lady asked for 13 Renminbi. A bit high but she explained the illegal copies were sold out.
This was the real version, she told us and of course we believed her.
On a side note, the movie is quite good.
From the review in Variety:
Based on a popular novel, Ann Hui’s “The Postmodern Life of My Aunt” turns its affectionate gaze on a woman of
humble origins from the provinces struggling to carve out a dignified life in the unaccommodating urban tangle
of Shanghai, where seemingly everyone is focused on personal profit.
Personally I felt sad after watching it. More than about the greed in the current China society it is about
loneliness, whether in Shanghai, or later on in Dongbei (Manchuria) where the main character is actually among
family.
