Just listened to an audio interview (is that already called a podview..) by Pacific Epoch with Paypal China‘s country manager Jeff Liao.
To listen directly to the audio interview click here (mp3 format)
Interestingly enough they won’t charge anything directly in their Chinese version. They seem to want to get market share first. I am sure once they have that, charges will be applied.
The audio quality is not great (use your headphone) but for anyone interested in this kind of stuff it’s worth your time.

Paypal China and the World
Paypal is coming to China and as always it is going to be the Chinese way. Because China is different. On the Chinese paypal pages you have two sweet maps to illustrate the difference.
Screendump of the translated page (thanks to Paymentnews.com )
You have paying in China in Renminbi and of course you can also participate in the “rest of the world” version. God forbid there would be some money going out of China in a structered way.
As an aside, both mentioned sites are unavailable in Shanghai thanks to the Chinese wall. Apparently news about money and the option of translating a page is too much.

Bar Rouge | Shanghai Bar Review
The terrace of Bar Rouge, part of Bund 18, is a good spot to enjoy the city from the standpoint of an early 20th century citizen, mixed with views on all things modern that Shanghai is building.

I have it in my list of Shanghai favorites for things-to-do when you have a visitor. The view is very much included in the pricing of the drinks. The menu gave us a choice of 6 teas. According to the waiter (who was friendly enough to interact) 4 of them were sold out. Tea, that is sold out around 15:00….. these must be very special teas. I settled for the green tea. The same special Chinese tea my neighborhood restaurant pours for free. It costs only 50 Rmb.

Shanghai Podcasts
Podcasting seems to be the next big thing.. at least for a very few “in the know” people right now. More than a month ago some bloggers and other podcast enthusiasts had dinner to talk about radio shanghai. (see chinaherald for the first steps …)
This was in the end of May and since then not much happened it seemed. Last wednesday we had another meeting and Tek explained the technical details to us. How to make a recording and how to publish it in a feed. He is actually the first and only one who started a real Shanghai podcast, called “3 minutes in Shanghai“. Check it out.
I might start a very small podcast myself in the future but for now keeping this blog up to date takes up enough time.
A Chinese Nap
From the moment I arrived in China I was amazed by the aptitude of the Chinese to take a nap.

No matter where they are, no matter how noisy the place nor how inconvenient the position seems, they are capable of dozing off in a nanosecond and steel some sleep.
Sometimes I am a bit puzzled when I see the staff of a restaurant sleeping, heads on the tables, feet on the couches and the chairs. Should I really wake them up to order.. Do I really want to order.. as the sight is not really inviting.
On the other hand I am bit jealous at times too as I would love to be able to sleep any splitsecond available. Sleeping is pretty nice you know.

Yangshuo Updates
I have just updated some more Yangshuo restaurant reviews. If i feel up to it I might, some day, continue with some more Yangshuo info. For now, just a last tip.
Bike out of West Street into the paddies. It’s great, it’s hot and you loose your breakfast fast. There are some great guides that can lead you or you can go by yourself. The advantage of having a guide is clear the moment your bike breaks down.
