Shanghai Wedding Stats | An Expensive Hobby

Filed under: China Statistics — Shanghai @ 3:37 am

Shanghai WeddingIn a city with an average income of 3000 Rmb I was surprised to read that they spend 160.000 on their weddings.
Some stats from the expat magazine 8Days.

Shanghai Weddings

  • Total number of marriages in Shanghai last Year – 120.000
  • Average percentage of savings young people will spend on their wedding – 91.2%
  • Average cost of a wedding – 160.000 Rmb. (a rise of 30 % compared to last year)
(Includes interior home decoration, buying household appliances, jewelry and new clothes, as well as paying wedding feasts and honeymoon trips. Excluding the house)
  • Number of Shanghai couples that divorce every day – 75 (Total of 27,374 couples/year) and rising
  • I always wonder by the way why people call this the most beautiful day in their life, blah, blah, blah. It’s so sad, like all days after this grand spending will be less.

    Harbin Travel | Maybe Later

Filed under: China Travel — Shanghai @ 9:08 am

I know, I promised the 1.5 reader of my blog I would stay clear of the Shanghai Daily. Just as I had detoxed myself from the online version I bought today’s paper version and saw this ad.

    harbin ice

Bring your own water I suggest.

For those of you who like to know what really is going on in Harbin I refer to Zonaeuropa, which has a very updated page of the latest events.

    Shanghai News Wrapup

Filed under: China News,Shanghai Life — Shanghai @ 5:25 am

Although I am still coughing my lungs out I thought I stay in touch with reality and read the online version of the Shanghai Daily to catch up with the latest news. I have missed a lot, I can tell you. Here are the headlines.
    Harbin water

    City boasts abundant water supply

While fresh, clean water is loosing its status of being a commodity in Harbin, the good news is there is more than enough in Shanghai.

Bird flu worries hit chicken sales

People are less fond of chicken products so prices are going down. If you want to save money, buy a chicken, it’s cheap.

Sales of frozen chicken have dropped 42.6 percent since the start of this month at supermarkets, while egg sales had fallen by 24.2 percent, according to a survey conducted by the Shanghai Commercial Information Center.

    Surgery removes woman’s hidden testicles

Just read it yourself. Drop naked wedding photos

    Wedding Pictures

A hot topic these days. Wedding pics with or without clothes.

Someone with an opinion quotes a photographer from Hangzhou who states the obvious. It is easy to put these naked pics on the internet “even though they had been destroyed in front of the couple once they had been developed. ”

And you don’t want that, remarks the author.

“If those portraits are blogged, it will be gloom for the groom when he finds that his bride is being “gang raped” by thousands of other guys’ eyes — unless, that is, he simply doesn’t care.”

Well, I am going to stay clear from the Shanghai Daily for some time and focus more on creating authentic content. They just make it too damn easy.

Flu | No Birds in Sight

Filed under: Private — Shanghai @ 7:31 am

Doooh, pretty lame title I know, but still true.
Have the flu as the Shanghai weather is changing to cold.
Luckily there is airco which blows hot air. Energy bill will go up again.
Like I said, I have the flu and reading what I just wrote I might as well stop now as it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

One good thing. I will be soon served a fish ball, beef & vegetable soup.

Moon Land Claims in Beijing Court

Filed under: China News Soft — Shanghai @ 4:59 am

The saga continues. (see previous post on selling the moon).

The Beijing company ‘Lunar Embassy’ is not giving up its right to sell pieces of the moon, despite being forbidden to do so by the Beijing’s industrial and commercial watchdog agency.

It filed suit in Beijing to regain its business license.

The industrial and commercial watchdog agency suspended the company’s business license on October 28 on grounds of speculation and profiteering. The move halted the company’s normal operation and “incurred huge economic losses,” said Li, chief executive officer of Beijing Lunar Village Aeronautics Science and Technology Co Ltd.

“They don’t have enough evidence to make the ruling,” Li said, stressing his business activities do not violate any law. “In fact, there is not a law or regulation in China that prohibits the selling of land on the moon.”

Earlier reports say 34 clients bought 49 acres at 298 yuan (US$37) an acre — amounting to 14,000 yuan in the first three days of sales.

If he gets his license back I think I start selling some pieces of Mars, Pluto and for that matter any part of the galaxy. I already have a name for the company, 42.

Bird Flu Medicine | Find Them China’s Online Auction Sites

Filed under: Chinese Multi Media — Shanghai @ 1:25 am

As the Bird Flu is still in it’s developing rural phase “smart” business men have found a new niche, Tonics, disinfectants, oils, masks and even down clothing are sold on online auctions like Taobao.com and promise prevention of the spread of the disease.

A seller from Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning Province, was selling various masks for 5 yuan (62 US cents) each. The seller said the “anti-virus masks” could effectively prevent SARS, bird flu and other diseases spread in the air.

A seller from Shandong Province promoted star anise essential oil that he claimed was produced in France and could protect people from the bird flu. The seller claims star anise is a key ingredient in Tamiflu. The oil was selling for 69 yuan for a 10-milliliter bottle yesterday.

Reminds me of the the many Westerns I watched on TV where opportunistic doctors/business men sold their cure-for-alls from a wagon.

As far I have been told only Tamiflu “might” help in treating. Pretty much unavailable right now as all governments are buying it up.
